Internet Travel Survey

Project Overview

The University Transportation Center of Alabama, UTCA, is responsible for the funding of this project while the UAH Civil Engineering Department is in charge of the research work.

This survey is intended to obtain information about your daily driving habits in order to build a Trip Generation Model. A Trip Generation Model is used to predict traffic conditions, such as volumes and congestion of roads, based on actual driver input. In order to obtain usable data you will be asked to provide detailed information about your daily trips.

A trip is considered to be "a one way movement from a point of origin to a point of destination" [Ortúzar, 114]. For example, you leave your house and your final destination is your office. However, on your way to work you stop at a the bank and then  continue on to your work place. This movement is considered as two trips. Trip one is from home to the bank  and trip two is from the bank to work. Use this methodology to fill out trip related questions in this survey.

Objectives

The main objective of this Internet survey is to collect household and travel data for building new Trip Generation Models for major cities in Alabama.

Test the effectiveness of Internet surveys as the primary data collection tool for Trip Generation Models.
