                                   Research Interested 
  Dr. Toutanji is an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.  His Research Interests include the application of advanced composite materials for strengthening and rehabilitation of structures, durability and long-term performance of advanced composites, high performance concrete, and design of concrete structures.  

Dr. Toutanji is a recipient of the NSF Presidential CAREER Award.  He has directed and organized an NSF-funded hemispheric conference entitled "Repair and Rehabilitation of Infrastructure of the Americas." He is an active member of ACI, ASCE, MRS and TRB.  He is a member of ACI 363 High Strength Concrete, ACI 440 Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP), ACI 123 Research, and ACI 544 Fiber Reinforced Concrete.  He published numerous publications on concrete structures, materials and design, and edited two major conference proceedings.

                                    Assistantships
                                     

Graduate Assistantships in Structural Engineering are available for qualified masters and doctoral students. Students with interest in experimental work, computer modeling and theoretical 
analysis and design will have the opportunity to work on various aspects of several multi-year projects with the National Science Foundation, Transportation Research Center of Alabama,and 
Alabama Department of Transportation. The projects are related to fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP), hybrid construction with concrete and FRP, high performance concrete decks, composite
