Multimedia Technology for Evaluating Structural Damage
This
project is intended to provide guides for evaluating the extent of structural
damage and providing step-by-step details on how to repair structural damage.
The research project addresses the development of such a self-guided
tool, which would rely on a wide range of multimedia, including hypertext,
video, sound and high-resolution graphics.

The
advantage of this type of technology is that it is easily adaptable and
extensible to future changes in design procedures and methodologies.
The long-term objective of this type of research is the development
of plan modules for all aspects of structural damage repair conducted by
Department of Transportation, including prestressed concrete, steel
reinforced concrete, steel and timber bridges.
The goal of this two-year proposal is to develop three of these
modules, namely: prestressed concrete, steel reinforced concrete and timber.
All modules are intimately linked to the current States Department of
Transportations repair practices, specification and construction
standards, procedures, and software.
The final is a web page and a CD-ROM based training tool to explain
and describe the current methodologies in each of these modules .
