Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Website.

The Department offers courses of study in both civil engineering and environmental engineering leading to the Bachelor of Science, Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The Department’s instructional and research programs focus in the areas of environmental and water resources engineering, geo-technical engineering, structural engineering and structural mechanics, and transportation engineering. The location of the Department in one of the nation’s top high technology communities and the Department’s ties with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the National Space Science and Technology Center and numerous other research centers offers the students significant opportunities to pursue education and research at the cutting edge of technology.  The Department’s undergraduate program in civil engineering is fully accredited by ABET, the national Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.  The Departmental faculty research grants- $175,000/yr/faculty – provide an excellent source of support to both graduate and undergraduate students.  The university offers a number of scholarships to qualified undergraduate students.

The Department’s ASCE student chapter is a very active and vibrant organization that is nationally recognized for its five national Concrete Canoe Championships and 12  regional championships.  It is quite an accomplishment for our civil engineering students to have Huntsville – a rocket city – labeled as the Concrete Canoe Capitol of the World. Civil engineering students pursuing an educational program at UAH have a great opportunity to learn from a marvelous faculty, interact with a wonderful student body, and prepare for an exciting professional career.

Our web site provides you detailed information about the undergraduate and graduate programs, the faculty and the facilities.  The Department is involved in numerous exciting initiatives to further strengthen its educational and research program.  If you are unable to find the information you are looking for or need additional information, don’t hesitate to contact us.
